Instagram profile picture size
Instagram shows profile pictures as a circle from a square image, stored at 320 × 320. Crop yours to a square and see the circle before you upload.
1080 × 1080
Runs in your browser. Nothing you type or upload is sent anywhere.
Your profile picture is uploaded as a square and shown as a circle, as small as 32 pixels across in comments. Instagram stores it at 320 × 320; uploading larger is fine and gives it room to scale down cleanly.
The corners of the square never show. Keep a face or a logo inside the circle with a little room around it.

Why is my profile picture blurry?
Usually because it was small or heavily cropped before upload. Start from a large square image.
