Superscript and subscript generator

Turn numbers and letters into superscript (x²) or subscript (H₂O) characters for a footnote, a unit or a formula, in any app.

  • Tiny (superscript)

    ˣ² ⁺ ʸ² ⁼ ᶻ²

  • Subscript

    ₓ₂ ₊ y₂ ₌ z₂

Runs in your browser. Nothing you type or upload is sent anywhere.

Superscript and subscript digits are their own Unicode characters, so m² or CO₂ keeps its shape anywhere you paste it, even where formatting isn't allowed.

Digits, + − = ( ) and most letters have a superscript form. Subscript letters are patchy: Unicode only has 17 of them, so the rest stay as they are.

How do I type a footnote mark?
Type the number and copy it from the Superscript row: 1 becomes ¹.
Why didn't every letter become subscript?
Unicode has no subscript b, c, d, f, g, q, w, y or z. They're left plain rather than swapped for something that doesn't match.
